Located
in Pathum Thani province, Navanakorn Industrial Park, one of the
largest industrial estates in Thailand, has been partially flooded. The
Flood Relief Operations Center has urged factories there to halt
operations, while officials are giving a helping hand to evacuate local
people.
Four temporary shelters have been provided to accommodate
the flood victims at T. U. Dome in Thammasat University's Rangsit
Campus, as well as Wat Phra Dhammakaya, Rajamangala University of
Technology Thanyaburi, and the Government Complex Commemorating His
Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary on Chaeng Watthana Road.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on October 17 expressed deep regret
at the destruction of floodwalls, resulting in flood water swamping this
industrial park. Apart from moving the flood victims to safe places,
she also called on officials to seek ways to save machinery and
equipment at the industrial estate. Warnings have been given
periodically.
The Prime Minister reiterated that officials would do their best to
protect Bangkok from flooding and that flood water in affected areas
would be drained quickly to improve the situation.
She added that the Government would accelerate assistance for the
flood-hit people and the industrial sector, especially small
entrepreneurs.
