All ministries, the police, the military, and volunteers have joined forces in flood control efforts.
General Palangkun Klaharn, a spokesperson for the Flood
Relief Operations Center (FROC), said on October 31 that the Ministry of
Interior was supporting efforts to reinforce embankments in cooperation
with local communities.
He said that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has
supported water pumps used in Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as
250,000 sandbags used at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
The Ministry of Transport is using 3,000 extra large sandbags to prevent
further influxes of water on Vibhavadi Rangsit and Phahonyothin roads,
as well as preventing the water at Muang Ake from affecting Khlong
Prapa.
FROC continues to coordinate the foreign relief assistance received from
various countries. It has to date received over 270 million baht in
donations for the relief efforts.
According to General Palangkun, the call center at FROC on October 31
received 119 calls, with most callers requesting to be relocated in
shelters. The Department of Local Administration has received over
10,000 cases to date, with over 8,000 cases resolved. It has also
supported the setting up of shelters, which can accommodate around
850,000 more evacuees.
The police force continues to conduct surveillance to ensure the safety
of the lives and property of the people. The armed forces has also
deployed over 60,000 military personnel to help in the flood relief
efforts.
