The
Ministry of Finance has worked out a package of measures to help flood
victims who have suffered from the flooding situation since August 2011.
Regarding financial measures, participating financial
institutions include the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural
Cooperatives, the Government Savings Bank, the Government Housing Bank,
the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand, the
Islamic Bank of Thailand, the Export-Import Bank of Thailand, the Krung
Thai Bank, the Small Business Credit Guarantee Corporation, and
Secondary Mortgage Corporation.
Assistance to be offered to their flood-hit clients include debt
suspension, the extension of the repayment period, interest reduction,
and loan extension for career rehabilitation and housing repairs.
Beginning on October 18, the Islamic Bank of Thailand will launch a special program to extend credit to flood victims.
In terms of tax measures, flood victims will be provided with a tax
exemption on compensation received from the public sector. Donors from 1
September 2011 to 31 December 2011 will also receive tax benefits.
The Revenue Department will consider extending the period for submitting
tax documents for entrepreneurs operating in the affected areas, as
necessary and appropriate.
The Office of Insurance Commission will encourage insurance companies to
expedite the payment of compensation to flood victims. Insured persons
may contact the hotline on 1186 for further information.
