 Both sides shared the view that they need to strengthen bilateral relationship and deepen cooperation, according to a joint press release, issued on the official visit of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to the Kingdom of Bahrain from 13 - 15 May 2012. The joint press release stated that the Bahraini government welcomed the development of cooperation in several areas including energy, construction, food security, agro-industry, finance and Islamic banking, health, culture, and tourism. Both countries expressed their concern about food security and believed that cooperation between Thailand and Bahrain in trade and investment as well as research and development of agricultural products, especially in the halal food industry, will benefit the two countries. In the area of health tourism, both sides also shared the view that cooperation in this area should be intensified. The Thai government has allowed residents from the Gulf Cooperation Council seeking medical services in Thailand to stay in the country up to 30 days without visa. The Thai private sector showed their interest in participating in construction projects in Bahrain, especially in the fields architecture services and interior design. The Bahraini side will form a working group to facilitate the operations of Thai private companies in Bahrain and will also encourage Bahraini investors to invest more in the Thai capital market. On this occasion, the Thai and Bahraini Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Culture, and the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Food Security, Trade and Investment in Agricultural Products and Food Commodities in Particular Halal Food. |
