IP Fair 2011 in Honor of the “Creative King” of Thailand

(29/08/2011)

The Department of Intellectual Property will organize the IP Fair 2011 in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who is recognized as the “Creative King” of Thailand.

The Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, Mrs. Pajchima Tanasanti, said that the three-day event is scheduled for 2-4 September 2011 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.

The fair will be divided into several zones, such as IP Creative King, IP Creative City, or Innovation Town, IP Showcase, IP Geographical Indication, IP Market, IP Clinic & Service, IP Award, IP Varieties, and IP Seminar.

One of the highlights is an exhibition featuring His Majesty’s creative achievements as models for Thai people to develop the country’s creative economy. On the occasion of His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday anniversary this year, visitors to the fair will be provided with an opportunity to write a tribute to His Majesty on the Internet at the exhibition site.

The Department of Intellectual Property in 2010 registered three new patents for His Majesty the King’s inventions. The first patent is for an invention to improve water quality. This water-quality improvement system uses a rail-mounted aerator to inject oxygen into water. Water plants are used to absorb waste, generate circulation, and reduce seaweed in water. The second patent is for a kinetic power generator, and the third one involves the structure of a power generator that can provide an alternative source of renewable energy, reduce global warming, and improve people’s living conditions.

There are now 11 patent registrations under His Majesty’s rights at the Department. Recognized as a role model for Thai inventors, His Majesty the King invented many devices with appropriate technology to improve the people’s living conditions and the environment. For instance, he invented an apparatus, known as the Chaipattana Aerator, for use in wastewater treatment.

His Majesty is also known as an artist who has created over 1,000 works, including paintings, photographs, and musical and literary works. In recognition of his remarkable contributions to intellectual property, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2009 presented the first Global Leaders Award to His Majesty. The award honored his ingenuity and has inspired the Thai people to follow his footsteps in promoting intellectual property, as well as creativity.

The upcoming IP Fair 2011 will provide the people with knowledge and information about intellectual property. It is also intended to raise public awareness of not violating intellectual property rights. In addition, the fair will encourage inventors, designers, and entrepreneurs to develop their creations. It will also serves as a forum for the owners of intellectual rights, industrial operations, and exporters to meet to discuss the development of their products for commercialization.
