Prime
Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has stressed that her administration is
fully dedicated to bringing back political, economic, and social
stability to the Thai people, to ensuring their well-being, and to
improving their quality of life.
In her remarks at the reception for the diplomatic corps
and heads of international organizations in Thailand on 9 September
2011, the Prime Minister said that the Government has a solid mandate to
carry out its people-centered policies.
First, it will expedite reconciliation, provide remedies, and foster
harmony in Thai society. The Government will also work tirelessly to
foster cooperation from all sides in order to bring back unity to
society. Without unity, she said, Thailand could not hope to prosper as a
nation. With unity, the country would be able to move forward to new
horizons.
Second, the Government will focus on attaining strong, balanced, and
sustainable economic growth, with foreign trade and investment as a key
component. It is committed to carrying out policies that will raise the
quality of life, extend the benefits of growth to all Thais, and protect
the vulnerable.
The Prime Minister believed that these policies would help restore
dynamism in the Thai economy. But this dynamism will also depend on
Thailand’s enhancing links with the global economy and with the rest of
the world deepening links with Thailand.
Third, with ASEAN becoming a community by 2015, Prime Minister Yingluck
explained that Thailand would intensify its cooperation for such
integration. The country is determined to play an important role in the
ASEAN Community once again. A key step is to restore trust and
confidence in relations with its neighbors, a key component of
Thailand’s foreign policy. Another step is to build greater connectivity
and partnerships within the region and beyond.
She stated that Thailand would have to prepare all sectors of Thai
society for the ASEAN Community. For instance, it needs to create
greater awareness and encourage Thai people to contribute to
community-building.
Fourth, regarding the international front, the Prime Minister said that
the Government pledged to do its best as an active and responsible
member of the international community, in order to help preserve peace
and promote prosperity.
She said that Thailand would also deepen its commitment in international
and multilateral affairs and enhance cooperation with its friends
around the world. It would play its part to ensure economic resilience,
by boosting economic expansion through promoting trade, investment, and
industrial growth. The Prime Minister pointed out that the peace and
prosperity of the international community are the common aspiration and
responsibility of all countries and that Thailand has become a stronger
and more vibrant partner to help attain this.
