The
Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has launched a new
project to cope with possible natural disasters. The National Disaster
Warning Center has been assigned to serve as the core agency in
implementing the project.
This project aims to create natural disaster warning
networks from both public and private organizations located in risk
areas and to educate communities in disasters preparedness.
Under the project, the National Disaster Warning Center will provide
training and workshop programs to community leaders in 20 provinces.
The community leaders will be educated in various kinds of natural
disasters, how to deal with the situation effectively, as well as what
they can do to minimize their risks in case of emergency.
In this program, the National Disaster Warning Center also introduces to
the community leaders the channel to reach the disaster warning
information, and they are advised to monitor the situation directly from
the National Disaster Warning Center’s website www.ndwc.go.th.
The National Disaster Warning Center is responsible for disseminating
warning messages on all kinds of natural disasters, such as earthquakes,
tsunamis, floods, landslides, drought, and forest fires.
The center also provides officials and the general public with knowledge
on emergency response, conducts warning and evacuation drills with
related agencies, and analyzes the severity of natural disasters in
order to provide information to agencies responsible for dealing with
disasters.
These efforts are intended to alert people quickly about the possibility
of natural disasters and reduce the country’s vulnerability with
appropriate measures and preparedness.
