The Cabinet has acknowledged a report that, as of 15 June 2012, a total of 658 factories in seven industrial estates in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani provinces affected by the severe flooding in 2011 have resumed operation. The number accounts for 78.43 percent of the total of 839 flood-hit factories.
As for large factories and SMEs outside the industrial estates, 7,781, or 98.61 percent, of large factories and SMEs have resumed operation.
The Ministry of Industry was allocated a fund of 47.4 million to set up a temporary office and factory for affected SMEs and companies. The temporary facilities have been used for production, equipment storage, and fixing. The venue is at the shelter headquarters at Rong Kluea market in Ayutthaya. Currently, 50 percent of the project has been completed with 134 participating companies, out of the goal of 100 (71 are industrial companies and 63 are SMEs).
Concerning safety and environment and industrial waste management, the Ministry of Industry was allocated 22 million baht to support flood-affected companies both inside and outside industrial estates by providing engineers to review safety and environmental and industrial waste management processes. This project aims to return factory operation and community safety to a normal state. Currently, 80 percent of the project has been completed, and 2,060 factories have been reviewed, above the target of 2,000.
The Ministry of Industry has received a budget of 25 million baht to test water quality, soil quality, and contamination both inside and outside industrial estates in 14 provinces affected by flood. Currently, 80% of the project has been completed, with 1,294 samples having been tested out of the total of 1,302 samples.
Regarding the project to restore Thailand’s image after the severe flooding, the Ministry of Industry was allocated a fund of 411.6 million baht. The project aims to restore Thailand’s image through the use of both domestic and international media and by organizing three investment events in Japan, South Korea, and China. Six percent of the project is now completed.
As for the operation of the industrial clinic to restore flood-affected SMEs, the Ministry was allocated 148 million baht. Currently, 45% of the project has been completed. The project helps analyze, review, and find out the causes; it will also determined the total cost of operation stoppage for 753 companies and help re-engineer business processes for 198 companies.
Concerning a vocational training center for flood victims, a budget of 51 million baht was allocated for the Ministry, which is now in the planning process.
