Chon
Buri province in the East will be the venue for the fifth mobile
Cabinet meeting under the Yingluck Shinawatra administration.
The meeting is scheduled for 18-19 June 2012 at the Royal
Cliff Grand Hotel in Pattaya, the most famous beach resort in this
province.
Less than 100 kilometers from Bangkok on the Bang Na – Trat Highway,
Chon Buri is recognized as the gateway to various coastal provinces. It
is noted for picturesque seaside destinations, cultural attractions, and
entertainment facilities on Thailand’s eastern seaboard.
The province is the location of Laem Chabang Port, which is the 20th
busiest port in the world. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will visit
Laem Chabang on 18 June to inspect the operations of this port.
The per capita income of Chon Buri is 441,000 baht, the fifth highest in
Thailand, after Rayong, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, and Samut Prakan. Chon
Buri earns 76.5 billion baht in tourism income each year. The amount
accounts for 10.4 percent of Thailand’s annual tourism income of 734.6
billion baht. Statistics in 2011 show that Chon Buri welcomed over eight
million visitors, mainly from Russia, China, Germany, Taiwan, and
India.
The population of Chon Buri is 1.34 million, with more than 706,000
households. There are 12 state hospitals, 11 private hospitals, 120
health stations, and 15 public health centers. Chon Buri is also home to
3,841 factories; 739 are located in five industrial estates and 3,102
outside the industrial estates.
The province has set a vision to become a more livable city and a modern
port city, serving as a gateway to the global economy. It also aims to
become an environment-friendly industrial base, an agricultural
production zone with international standards, and a prime international
tourism destination, with a sustainable ecological system and natural
resources.
The Pattaya beach resort has city status. Once a tiny village, the city
has developed into a renowned international playground. It provides fine
spots for swimming and relaxation. But the emphasis of Pattaya is more
on activity than relaxation. It offers a variety of water sports, such
as sailing, windsurfing, scuba driving, deep-sea fishing, and
water-skiing. Moreover, it is an excellent choice of land-based
activities, ranging from golf to horse riding.
Only 45 kilometers from Pattaya, U-tapao airport is equipped with
facilities to handle charter flights from overseas. Bangkok Airways
operates aviation services carrying passengers from U-tapao to Samui
Island in Surat Thani and to the island of Phuket in the South.
Chon Buri province is ready to serve as the venue for the upcoming mobile Cabinet meeting on 18-19 June.
